So, of course since I am Swedish I do my blogg in Swedish, because it is easiest.
However today I will do it in English just because we had out of town visitors this weekend and I think it will be easier for them if I write in English 🙂
So it all started Friday after work when I picked them up outside of their hotel in Stockholm. I had promised them a real Swedish weekend in the countryside so first we had to get there.
And as you know in order to experience what I do every day you have to commute by train, and as every Friday the train was crowed. So no exceptions there, but maybe an experience…
When we got home my husband had put on a fire and my friend Hiromi had brought some great Japanese Spiritus directly from Japan that we enjoyed. Really nice and a very special taste! However I did not understand a word of the text on the bottle.
So what do you cook a Friday night in Sweden? Well most of the times we swing by the local pizzeria, (I always take a salad) but we had to prepare something else.So what can be better than fish eggs and Västerbottenpaj? I would say that the pie was approved, or do I dare to say well approved?

It was a great evening with a lot of fun and great talks.
Saturday morning we had promised to bring them to the great city of Uppsala.
First of course we had a big brunch with eggs and bacon, yoghurt and Swedish cheeses from Falbygdens mejerier. It was a good steady breakfast that would last us all day.
My parents had been so kind taking the kids for a few hours. Then we did not have to force the kids to join us walking around looking at boring grown up things.
Of course what is a visit to Uppsala if not the Dome is included? I got really scared, because at the end of the dome they had a doll standing for display. She really looked scary to me, but still pretty funny!

So I had to show the doll the great windows of the dome. I think she looks pretty interested, or is it just me?
After that we decided, since we are grown ups, that a Semla is lunch. So we went to Ovandahls konditori in Uppsala and had of course a Swedish semla.

I think we all thought we were happy we did not eat lunch…
What else should you show your out of town guest?
Well the ICA Supermarket of course!

I understand what you think. Can that be fun? Yes, it was. But the funny thing is thatwhen I go to the Supermarket I usually  know what to buy and I usually never buy new brands or products. But I found so many new products. Because both Emil and Hiromi showed me a lot of products asking, ”what is this?” and my reply on a few of the items where “I don’t know” I could not even know what or how you should eat them.
It was like seeing something for the first time, even though you do this almost every day. That was really interesting.
When we got home we also had decided that the first BBQ for the 2012 was going to take place!
But before we fired up the grill heading for the meat we had to have a  Riedel glass tasting.

I have done glass tastings before, but not in English and it was a bit harder finding all the words, but I think everyone had a great time. It is really great for me as well, to see how someone discovers the truth about how important the glass is and how much if effects the taste of the wine.

This was even the first time my husband had a full tasting and he was amazed. Now he understands why I love my glasses. So maybe I should have done this before, because now I know he is all about the glasses.
So after the tasting we had a traditional Swedish BBQ as we do it at my house. Meat, ribs, potatoes, hallomi, béarnaise sauce and Jensens Whiskey sauce, and to that the wine that was still from the tasting.

I can tell you I heard no complaints then either. It was a great meal, but it makes me really look forward to summer and being outdoors and do it as you are supposed to. I really miss the summer BBQs.
It was a great evening as well, good company, good music and some great moves  🙂
So we slept in late Sunday. That was nice and needed.
Sunday was so beautiful we just wanted to take a walk, or maybe after all the food I should say had to…

Ice cold, beautiful snow and the sun was shining.
My daughter was making snow angels, rolling around in the snow.

So much better than the gray mud we had the last few months.

Can you ask for more?
What else do you need to complete a Swedish weekend? Well, how about some more food?
Yes, we went for that one. But for this salmon lunch our guest where cooking.

It did not just smell divine, it tasted excellent. Emil made his moms carrots in a special secret way and the salmon had a lot of exiting different things in the foil that was in the oven, the beats where sweet and the beat sauce a perfect match to the food. It is so nice to get some inspiration and new ideás in the kitchen.

It was the grand finale to the perfect weekend and really the perfect meal to end it with.

No, wait! We had some more FOOOOODDDD! We also just had to fishing the meal off with Swedish Ostkaka with jam. Mostly because we still where hungry, or well I can tell you we really weren’t.
Then our guest had the flee the country in order not to gain any weight!
Honestly it was a really great weekend in many ways, and really we do not eat this much. Especially I do not eat this much. There was not much thinking involved with the eating this weekend. But, do you know what that was okay.
I remembered earlier when I had food weekends like this almost every weekend, but not it is not that common, but I when I do I really enjoy them.
But just to be safe I guess there won’t visit the scale this week, but give myself an extra week to get things straight…
I really hope our guest had a great weekend, and I guess they will always think that they only thing Swedish people do is eating…
I hope you had a great weekend as well!?
